• Has previous blogging or journalism experience but… we’re not too picky, if you are willing to learn how, we might be willing to teach you.
• Must know tons of people that will help spread the word!
• Genuinely cares about the idea of promoting buying local.
• Desires more than just another volunteer position to kill time. Must be passionate!
• Is professional, curteous and respectable. All in all, must be a people person.

Aside from these simple and basic requirements, we hope to find folks with a real sense of community, a thirst for helping others and a dedication to a worthwhile cause.

Sheridan, Wyoming is where our home is. We have been blessed to live in such a wonderful place and it is my duty to give back to this town in any way I can.

That is where “Buy Local Sheridan” comes in. This is one way that I can easily help others in the community that went out of their way to help myself and others like me in our times of need.

In order to be include on our site, here is what we will need:

1. Your Company name, address and Administrative contact information.
2. One full page (min 350 word) article, in your own words (must be unique) about your products or service.
3. One Company Logo, and (up to) 2 additional images for optimization and linking purposes.

In addition, we’d be happy to discuss Press Releases, Article Marketing Content Indexing & Bookmarking options with you.

Ok, Here’s How It Works:

Your Company’s article page on BLS, will allow us to direct (via internal links) readers and potential cutomers to your designated website or social media pages and or sales funnels, where you can sell, share and/or explain your products and/or services in more detail.

For each company’s article, we will include both a Facebook  “like”  and a Twitter “Retweet” button.

Both of these social features can help spread your company message like wildfire.

The goal for each company page, is  to help create interaction and in turn build positive rankings for our websites and social media pages alike. The more interaction a site or webpage can get, the better.

Take The Buy Local Challenge in 2011

Today we at Buy Local Sheridan, are introducing you to the “Buy Local Challenge“, a community based challenge designed to increase awareness , interaction and boost local spending.

The idea behind the challenge is simple. Each year during the last week of July, we pledge to eat at least one thing, per day from a local farm or food producer.

The goal is simple as well… Meet and mingle with your local food producers, buy from them and taste the difference of fresh locally grown and rasied food. Each time someone purchases food from a local farm or food producer, they are doing their part.

Allow me to clarify a few points about the Buy Local Challenge for you:

Individuals, businesses and organizations can take the challenge. Farms, stands and local markets that offer localy grown and raised food are ideal locations to start.

The challenge begins on the last full week in July, each year. Remember, supporting local farms promotes fresher air, cleaner water, healthier families, stronger economies, safer food supplies and a cleaner, greener planet.

This is one thing that every community in the country can implement to show their community supports local farms, ranchers and food producers.

For those that are not aware, The Buy Lcoal Challenge originated in Maryland, several years ago. Since then it has built steady momentum each year. Obviously Maryland is not Wyoming but the concept they have created works well in any state, county and community in the country. In fact, the buy local challenge could benefit communities anywhere around the world.

This is about buying local and supporting businesses in your community, regardless of where you live. Let’s start with Sheridan Wyoming and spread the word from there.

Search Local To Buy Local Sheridan.

In that post, I was talking about the benefits that utilizing search engines can be for local businesses. What I did not get into and should have made very clear is that local business owners, in order to improve their chances of being found in search, need to set up an account with Google Places and claim their local business listing today.

In addition, there is Yelp, Yahoo and several other highly reputable business directories that you should have your local company listed in.

I have personally seen the effects of utilizing websites, blogs, social marketing channels and how powerful they can be for a small business.

I have also followed many online retailers and marketers whom believe in partial anonymity and strictly conducting their business’ online without a physical address. Less headache and less overhead.

However, there are a growing number of claimed listings already, that suggest this trend will continue.

Unfortunately, we at Buy Local Sheridan, are in the same boat as the above mentioned since we do not yet operate from a storefront but rather from a home office.

Local online business listings will undoubtedly continue to have huge impacts on whether or not your company’s site shows up in search when someone looks for your type of business or service in your particular area.

Another important thing to keep in mind… people who search for the same info but using their phones instead. Phone surfers are going to make an enormous impact on local business that are listed in online directories.  Did I mention coupons that you add to your listings can be downloaded on a phone?  Hmmm.. That’s for another time I guess.
