This post is to properly conclude what I was attempting to get at in my previous post:

In that post, I was talking about the benefits that utilizing search engines can be for local businesses. What I did not get into and should have made very clear is that local business owners, in order to improve their chances of being found in search, need to set up an account with Google Places and claim their local business listing today.

In addition, there is Yelp, Yahoo and several other highly reputable business directories that you should have your local company listed in.
I have personally seen the effects of utilizing websites, blogs, social marketing channels and how powerful they can be for a small business.
I have also followed many online retailers and marketers whom believe in partial anonymity and strictly conducting their business’ online without a physical address. Less headache and less overhead.
However, there are a growing number of claimed listings already, that suggest this trend will continue.
Unfortunately, we at Buy Local Sheridan, are in the same boat as the above mentioned since we do not yet operate from a storefront but rather from a home office.
Local online business listings will undoubtedly continue to have huge impacts on whether or not your company’s site shows up in search when someone looks for your type of business or service in your particular area.
Another important thing to keep in mind… people who search for the same info but using their phones instead. Phone surfers are going to make an enormous impact on local business that are listed in online directories. Did I mention coupons that you add to your listings can be downloaded on a phone? Hmmm.. That’s for another time I guess.
